Bain Capital Employee Lauren Weisharr Participates in Haymakers for Hope – Belles of the Brawl VI Charity Boxing Tournament

Lauren Weishaar, Associate IR Operations, participated in the Haymakers for Hope – Belles of the Brawl VI Charity Boxing Tournament on October 10 at the House of Blues in Boston. All funds that she raises will benefit Dana-Farber Cancer Institute as well as the Jimmy Fund. To date, she has raised $9,350 and has a personal fundraising goal of $10,000.

Over the last few months, Lauren, along with 31 other brave women, have undertaken an intense training regimen to prepare to step into the ring in front of 2,000 people and literally fight for a cure for cancer.

When asked why she is fighting, Lauren says "to honor my loved ones lost, those undergoing treatment and to raise money and awareness for cancer research, care, and most importantly survivorship.   People ask me if I'm terrified/nervous… absolutely, but I'm prepared, I've put in the time, and this mission is greater than any punch I'll endure in the ring."

A friend of Lauren's has been receiving treatment at Dana-Farber for the past few months and she recently posted an inspirational message on her blog:

"I'm grateful to have this reboot chance at life. Is it the path I would have chosen? Certainly not. I'm taking this opportunity and running with it and doing some good with it.  We may not get to choose what hand we are dealt, but we do get to choose what we do with it.  I choose to do good, to keep on smiling and keep on laughing. I choose to live life each day and every day with gratitude and new appreciation. I choose life"

Founded in 2010, Haymakers for Hope has organized 18 charity-boxing events in Boston, New York City, and Denver and raised more than $9 million for cancer research, care, awareness, and survivorship.
