Annis joined Bain Capital Ventures in 2017 as the firm’s head of marketing. In this role she is responsible for for driving the firm’s marketing strategy and execution – from branding and messaging to events, thought leadership and PR and all the other marketing activities in between.

Previously, Annis led marketing and communications for Sapphire Ventures, a global venture firm that invests in growth-stage startups and early-stage venture funds. During her tenure, Annis established Sapphire’s first-ever in-house marketing function, led its rebranding from SAP Ventures to Sapphire Ventures and created its inaugural CEO Summit and annual CIO Summit.

Before Sapphire, Annis worked at impact investing firm Omidyar Network, where she led marketing and communications programs in support of the firm’s consumer Internet and mobile and entrepreneurship initiatives and oversaw online strategy and social media. Annis began her career in more traditional financial services, most recently as a marketing manager at Charles Schwab and formerly as an associate in Merrill Lynch’s multicultural marketing group.

Annis grew up on a farm in southwest Georgia and in the suburbs of Philadelphia, with a stint in Germany in between.


Annis earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, where she studied foreign affairs and history and spent several summers and holidays doing volunteer work and community development projects in places like Ghana, Bosnia, Nicaragua and Jamaica.
