Bain Capital Information Technology Team Participates in Annual SunSplash Service Day with Italian Home for Children

In August, for the sixth year in a row, the Bain Capital Information Technology team participated in a day of service at the Italian Home for Children during their SunSplash Event. On a beautiful summer day, more than 70 Bain Capital team members donated their time to help provide the children, teachers, and families with a spectacular day of fun in the sun.

The kids arrived at noon to a traditional cookout of hamburgers, hot dogs and ribs cooking on a row of outdoor grills. After a delicious lunch, they went running straight to the candy table which is a kid AND adult favorite. Other stations included a giant slide, dunk tank, tattoo station, face painting, bouncy house, obstacle course, and an assortment of carnival games. The kids spent the afternoon running around to each game and dancing to tunes from a local DJ.  This year's favorite was Criss Cross collision (see photos) where they climbed into giant rolling balls and had Bain Capital volunteers push them around the course. This took about 10 volunteers at a time and lots of energy to do all the pushing. Everyone was ready for a nap after that. The day ended with a demonstration from the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

The IT team also raised $1,100 through a raffle. These funds will be used for field trips this the school year.

All the children left with full tummies and smiling faces.  It is a uniquely rewarding experience for the volunteers to see the kids laugh and have fun despite sometimes tremendously difficult personal circumstances. The event gave the IT volunteers the opportunity to help a neighbor, have fun, and strengthen their team spirit.

Italian Home for Children is a residential and day treatment facility for emotionally and behaviorally challenged children and was selected for the service day because of the great work they do enriching the lives of children and families in the community.
