Bain Capital IT Service Day with Italian Home for Children Bain Capital IT employee Anna at the face painting station

On August 18th, Bain Capital IT participated in a Day of Service at the Italian Home for Children during their SunSplash Event. Italian Home for Children is a residential and day treatment facility for emotionally and behaviorally challenged children and was selected because of the great work they do enriching the lives of children and families in the community. The event gave volunteers the opportunity to help a neighbor, have fun, and strengthen their teams.

This was the third year that the Bain Capital IT team supported the SunSplash Event.  This year, on a sizzling hot summer day, over 70 Bain Capital team members donated their time to take care of every detail and provide the children, teachers and families with a spectacular day of fun in the sun!

The kids arrived at noon, their eyes growing bigger with excitement, running straight to the popcorn and slush machines. Other stations included a giant slide, dunk tank, tattoo station, candy station, photo booth and an assortment of carnival games. The kids spent the afternoon running around to each game station and dancing to the popular tunes from DJ Judy. At 3pm when the day ended, volunteers watched the kids walk away with their families and teachers with big smiles on their faces.

"I was the first person the kids, teachers and families interacted with as they started the food line. Saying 'hello,' asking them if they wanted a cheeseburger or hot dog, hearing them answer with excitement and seeing their big smiles, was such a joy for me" said Bain Capital Credit employee Lara Agudo.

Of the day, Jeff Nelson, a member of the Bain Capital IT team, said, "I enjoy being able to give kids an environment that is set up for them to have fun in a way that they normally can't. It's a uniquely rewarding experience seeing them smile and have fun amidst sometimes tremendously difficult personal circumstances".

Scott Fraatz, the IHC coordinator who worked closely with Bain Capital, said "Every year Bain Capital makes SunSplash such a special event for the children and families here at Italian Home for Children. We are truly lucky to have a great group of volunteers come and end summer in such a fun way! SunSplash is looked forward to every year, and next year's event is already highly anticipated by everyone here at Italian Home for Children!"
