Bain Capital Managing Director Works to Inspire Women to Join Private Equity

Level 20, the London-based organization focusing on attracting and retaining Women in Private Equity, celebrated its one-year anniversary earlier this month with a Cocktails Reception at the Royal Automobile Club. In attendance were a large mix of GPs, LPs and advisers, male and female, who had the opportunity to hear about the organization’s First Year of Activities and Future Plans.

The organization was formed and seeded by a group of 12 Senior Women active in Private Equity, including Bain Capital’s own Managing Director Cecile Belaman. The aim is to inspire women to join and succeed in the private equity industry, such that they will account for 20% of senior professionals, compared with 5% in 2015. Its strong belief is that gender diversity at all, and in particular at senior levels, in the private equity industry will lead to superior investment performance.

Since its founding, Level 20 has received an overwhelmingly positive response, attracting over 600 individual members and securing multi-year funding from more than 37 Private Equity firms, including Bain Capital. It has focused its activities around three main pillars: structured mentoring for mid-career women, formalized networking through impactful events and a strong commitment to philanthropic activities. Newly appointed CEO Jeryl Andrew, a veteran in the industry, has expressed her commitment to the mission and to further develop these initiatives going forward.
